ABOUT OUR ARTIST’S BOOK FESTIVAL
The ILDE’s IV Festival of artist books and limited first editions
From 9th to 25th of april and from 26th of abril to 7th of may 2011

The IV Festival of artist books and limited first editions will take place in Barcelona in April 2011. This initiative was born to disseminate and promote the culture of the book as a creative object and as an object of investigation. By way of an open call for entries and specific invitations to artists working in different idioms, the Cultural Association ILDE collects prototypes, one of a kind books and limited first editions for the publication of a book-catalog for international exchange.
Thus creating a living meeting place until the next festival.

Each year, the plurality of the books that participate in the festival collaborates to develop a theme chosen to function as a common thread; as well as addressing the multiple aspects of the universe of techniques and concepts that surround books and book-making.

In 2011 with the theme “Use a Book”, ILDE wants to discuss the use and usefulness of the book as a vehicle of expression and artistic production.

The books will be on exhibit beginning on the 9th of April in the Catalonian Craft Center (Artesania Catalunya), where there will be a series of lectures for artist, publishers and specialists. Like every year the books will also be on display on the 23rd of April in the Plaça Sant Just, accompanied by the presence of the authors who have been invited to present their work.

We are hoping the festival will become an explosive open-air laboratory of ideas.
The workshops together with attendance of the festival in the local bookshops were designed to present everyone with the opportunity to approach sensibilities, and discover different aspects of the publishing world.
